About Me

I am a 12th grade student from Toronto. Aspiring to be an entrepreneur in the tech industry, I have embarked on various tech projects designed to improve my skills. Outside of programming, my passions include reading and writing, as well as listening to and writing music. This website is meant to be a showcase of who I am, my interests, and accomplishments. Thanks for stopping by, and please feel free to reach out to me at william06clarke@gmail.com.

My Coding Projects

My interest in coding has led me to taking on projects where I've been able to combine areas that interest me with learning more about application development, programming languages, and various new technologies. Over the summer of 2023, I gained practical experience in AI and machine learning through an internship at Ascribe Marketing Inc., where my task was to create a prototype text-rewriting model and report that would assist them in assessing what path they should take as an organization in leveraging AI to surpass competitors in their space. Later that year, I initiated a game development project where I was able to utilize the economic laws of comparative advantage and diminishing returns in order to develop a web game called “Medieval MarketSim” that modeled a fantasy store selling goods amidst a dynamic world economy. This game is a work in progress that I enjoy extending as I continue to learn more about programming and have new creative ideas on how to model and gamify economic principles.

My Writing

History, economics, and philosophy have long been one of my key subjects of interest. I’ve done extensive research on a variety of topics, and have taken up writing in order to extend my knowledge of these humanities subjects. My most notable essay was an entry to the 2023 Fraser Institute Student Essay Contest, which won me 5th place out of approximately a thousand contestants; in the essay, I discussed the high inflation in Canada caused by the coronavirus, as well as errors in the Bank of Canada’s responsive monetary policy. I’ve also written numerous other essays on subjects ranging from Nietzschean philosophy to Cold War history.

Music

I’ve gone through classical training playing the piano, reaching the highest level in the Royal Conservatory of Music. During the pandemic, I taught myself the guitar. Soon after, I took up songwriting and learned to record and produce music. Creating music from multiple genres, individually or with others, has become one of my favorite hobbies. Writing, performing, and producing music has leveraged skills I have from different domains, utilizing my creative mindset and technical skills.
